Akem Manah was formed in Ghent in the year 2007. The first run of the band led to "The Testament of Sealant Mound " in 2010 and the EP "Beneath" in 2012. 

After that, things faded out around 2014 without much of a formal ending. 

The band picked up again in 2023 with three of the original members RD, JT and XDS (Hangman’s Hymn, The Dead Dirt, Voidwork, … ) being joined by former member GVC (Splendidula, Wound Collector, Hangman’s Hymn, …). Since then, XDS has taken up a lot of the musical and organisational work, infusing the material with even more horror influences. Songs tend to build around repetition, small shifts, and a general sense of foreboding. 

The new album Threnodies (2026) follows the same thread. The songs stand on their own, each tied to a figure or a story. The themes circle around cosmic horror and a more personal kind of unease, without spelling everything out. There is no real effort to pin the band to a single style. Doom, death and black metal all show up in different places, depending on what the songs ask for.
